Aussies thrashes WT20 Champions England by 6 wickets in the 1st ODI

Australia have defeated the World T20 Champions England in the 1st ODI at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday. The hosts with this win have taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series.

The Aussies looked to have regained their touch after a disappointing journey in the World Cup.

Australia elected to bowl first after winning the toss. England's Dawid Malan was adjudged as player of the match for his magnificent batting performance. The 2nd ODI of the series will be played on November 19 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

England had a poor start in the match. Australia started with some remarkable bowling effort early in the match to dismiss England's top order cheaply. Sam Billings then try to assist Dawid Malan but failed to do so.

Malan on the other hand was looking rock solid and kept scoring runs. Skipper Jos Buttler and David Willey provided great support to the left-handed batter. Malan after playing a memorable knock took the scoreboard to 259/8 before his dismissal.

He scored brilliant 134 runs in 128 balls and helped the team to put up a fighting total. No other English batter managed to play an effective inning. England posted a total of 287/9 in their 20 overs.

Captain Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa took 3 wickets with Mitchell Starc and Marcus Stoinis getting a single wicket each.

The openers provided a promising start to the hosts. Both Warner and Travis Head looked in sublime touch at the top of the order. Both smashed half-centuries and put up a 147-run opening stand.

Head was dismissed for 69 runs followed by Steve Smith's great support to Warner as both took the team score past 200. Warner then was dismissed for 86 runs.

Marnus Labuschagne failed to contribute much and was dismissed cheaply followed by Alex Carey's dismissal for 21 runs in the 39th over.

Steve Smith was then joined by Cameron Green as they took the team over the line. David Willey took 2 wickets with Liam Dawson and Chris Jordan getting a single wicket each for the visitors.
