Australia's world cup-winning captain Meg Lanning has announced that she'll be taking an indefinite period of break from the game due to personal reasons.
The decision comes a few days after she led the Australian team to a gold medal victory in Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. Aussies beat India by 9 runs in the final and completed their global domination having already won World T2O in 2020 and ODI World Cup earlier this year.
Australia women's cricket team in a statement confirmed her decision of taking an indefinite break with immediate effect. Cricket Australia has graciously supported and respected the decision of the star cricketer.
"Meg Lanning will take a period of indefinite leave, effective immediately. Meg has made the decision to take a break from the game for personal reasons, with no timeline set for her return. CA and our team wholeheartedly support Meg's decision, and wish her all the best ", Australia women's cricket team said in a statement.
Australian women's team has flourished quite a success under Lanning's captaincy as they look Invincibles at the moment. They have a remarkable depth in their squad and have been doing well in every format consistently.
"We're proud of Meg for acknowledging that she needs a break and will continue to support her during this time. She's been an incredible contributor to Australian cricket over the last decade, achieving remarkable feats both individually and as a part of the team, and has been a brilliant role model for young kids".
"The welfare of our players is always our number one priority, and we'll continue to work with Meg to ensure she gets the support and space she needs," said Shawn Flegler CA Head of Performance, Women's Cricket.
The Australian team remained unbeaten in their Commonwealth Games campaign which they ended up winning. Apart from ODI & World T2O victory, Meg Lanning also led her team to Women's Ashes victory at home.
