A 132 runs opening stand between Jos Buttler and Alex Hales and brilliant bowling performance by Mark Wood and Sam Curran helped England to win the First T20I by eight runs.
As it happened:-
Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first in Perth Stadium. Australia made six changes from their last game against West Indies as their frontline bowlers were rested for the first T20I. Stoinis, Marsh, Ellis, Swepson, Sams and Richardson came into the playing XI.
Jos Buttler who missed the Pakistan tour due to injury is back in the team and also Ben Stokes who returned to the T20I team after 18 months gap.
Cameron Green bowled the first over for Australia and Jos Buttler smashed him for 16 runs. Hales and Buttler then took on Richardson in the fifth as they smashed him for two boundaries and a six. England scored 58 runs in the power play.
Buttler and Hales then smashed Stoinis for 21 runs in the eighth over. Both the batters reached their half-century. England scored 118 runs in 10 overs.
Nathan Ellis gave Australia their first breakthrough as he dismissed Buttler on 68(32) and broke the 132 runs partnership. England was looking to post more than 230+ runs target on the scoreboard but Australia managed to pull things back as they dismissed Stokes on 9(9) and Hales on 84(51). England posted 208 runs on the scoreboard.
Cameron Green's poor form continued as he fell for 1 run to Reece Topley. David Warner continued his brilliant form and took on England bowlers. Marsh and Warner stitched up a 71-run partnership for the second wicket. Adil Rashid dismissed Marsh on 36(26) with a googly. Finch was run out in the 11th over and Australia was looking in trouble.
Marcus Stoinis and David Warner helped Australia to get back in the chase but Mark Wood got the wicket of Stoinis and Tim David in the 15th over, he also got the wicket of David Warner in the 17th over. With 22 needed in the last two, Reece Topley and Sam Curran bowled calmly and sealed the victory for England.
