Hardik Pandya-led young Indian team have defeated New Zealand in their own backyard to clinch the 3-match T2OI series 1-0.
India were given a target of 161 runs in the last match which was a decider. Men in blue scored 75 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in their 9 overs.
The match was then stopped due to rain interruption. The 3rd T2OI was declared as a tie without a ball being bowled after the interruption. India have won the T2OI series 1-0.
New Zealand elected to bat first after winning the toss and posted a total of 160 runs in their 19.4 overs. Devon Conway who scored 59 runs was the highest run-getter for the Kiwis.
Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh took 4 wickets each for the men in blue.
Chasing the target, India had a poor start to their inning as they lost the first 3 wickets for just 21 runs on the board. Ishan Kishan was dismissed for 10 runs by Adam Milne whereas Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed for 11 and 0 runs respectively by Tim Southee.
Skipper Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav then tried to recover the early damage as they put up a 39-run in 22 balls for the 4th wicket. Ish Sodhi then got the better of Suryakumar Yadav who was dismissed for 13 runs.
Hardik remained unbeaten on 30 runs in 18 balls with Deepak Hooda alongside who scored 9 runs in 9 balls.
Mohammad Siraj was adjudged as player of the match for his 4 wickets and Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged as player of the series.
This was the 2nd consecutive T2OI series win for India in New Zealand. The men in blue won 5-0 in the 5-match T2OI series in 2019/2020. This was also the 7th consecutive T2OI win for India in New Zealand.
