Shikhar Dhawan replaced Mayank Agarwal as the new captain of PBKS for IPL 2023

Shikhar Dhawan has been named as captain of the Punjab Kings for the IPL 2023 season. He stepped in for Mayank Agarwal, who was named captain of the Punjab Kings just before the start of the IPL 2022 season. The decision was approved by their franchise board meeting on Wednesday.

Shikhar Dhawan, who had a good 2020 IPL season with Delhi Capitals, was picked by Punjab Kings for INR 8.25 crore in the IPL mega auction. Agarwal joined the Punjab Kings in 2018, but in IPL 2022, he only made 196 runs in 13 matches at an average of 16.33.

Mayank was one of the Punjab Kings' two retentions last year, and he has been retained for INR 14 crore while Arshdeep Singh was the second retention. Dhawan has been captaining India's second-string side in ODIs. He was recently named as captain for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand.

Mayank Agarwal's future, whether he is retained or released, will be decided in due course. The deadline to submit the list of players that teams want to release for the auction is November 15.

Trevor Bayliss has been named as Punjab Kings' new head coach for the IPL 2023 season. Bayliss has won the IPL twice with the Kolkata Knight Riders.
