Bangladesh beat West Indies by 9 wickets in the second ODI and led the 3 match ODI series by 2-0. Bangladesh lost the Test and T20I series but now they have won the ODI series with a game to spare. This is Bangladesh's biggest win away from home. Bangladesh has now won six ODI bilateral series out of the last seven.
Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, West Indies were bowled out at 108 in 35 overs. West Indies batters had no answers to Bangladesh spinners as Mehidy Hasan took 4 wickets and Nasum Ahmed took 3 wickets.
Bangladesh made the most out of the slow wicket as no West Indies batter got off to a good start. Openers Shai Hope and Kyle Mayers were dismissed early after that Shamarh Brooks and Brandon King were dismissed by Nasum Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan. Skipper Nicholas Pooran was dismissed on duck by Nasum Ahmed. Keemo Paul was the top run scorer from the West Indies, he scored 24-ball 25.
Chasing the target Bangladesh got off to a good start as captain Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto put up a 48-run partnership for the first wicket. Motie dismissed Najmul for 20 runs but after that Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das won the match for Bangladesh. Tamim scored 50 not out off 62 balls and Bangladesh won the match convincingly.
"Tough, tough day. We didn't show up as a batting group. We need to sit and chat about how we need to play ODI cricket. Obviously, the conditions didn't help us today but whenever we get good batting tracks, we need to plan how to bat better in this format. Difficult to say (about the par score) as the wicket gets better as the day progresses. Need to stick together and hopefully we can get better. Toss does play a big factor. It's about accepting challenges and showing fight". - West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran said.
"At the beginning of the series, I said that this is a format that we are proud about, and we have performed well in the past. Dressing room wasn't the happiest (after the Tests and T20Is) but everyone was keen to win. It's a great feeling to win but there is still room for improvement, and need to tick more boxes. Aim is clearly the next ODI World Cup next year. I was batting well, just that I wasn't converting starts" - Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal said.
