टीम इंडिया (Team India) की अगर सबसे यादगार जीतों की बात करें, तो इनमें एक ऐसी जीत भी शामिल है, जिसका जिक्र किए बगैर बात पूरी नहीं हो सकती। क्योंकि ये एक ऐसी ऐतिहासिक और यादगार जीत है, जिसे किसी भी भारतीय क्रिकेट प्रेमी के लिए भुलाना नामुमकिन है। ये जीत इतने साल भी सभी खेल प्रेमियों के दिलो दिमाग में अभी भी तरोताजा है।
यूं तो उस ऐतिहासिक जीत को 40 साल हो गए हैं, लेकिन सभी को यही लगता है कि जैसे कल ही की बात हो। आज से ठीक 40 साल पहले आज ही के दिन 25 जून को टीम इंडिया ने विश्व कप (World Cup) 1983 जीतते हुए अपनी पहली ICC Trophy जीती थी। जब टीम इंडिया ने कपिल देव (Kapil Dev) के नेतृत्व में इंग्लैंड (England) में खेले गए फाइनल मुक़ाबले में डिफ़ेंडिंग चैम्पियन वेस्टइंडीज (West Indies) को हराया था।
